Organized in 1978, the Appalachian Blacksmiths Association is an affiliate of ABANA. We represent blacksmiths, bladesmiths, and farriers in West Virginia and its surrounding states of Pennsylvania, Ohio, Maryland, Virginia, and Kentucky. 

We publish a quarterly newsletter which keeps our membership up to date on events. The newsletter also features many metalworking tips.

Annual Meeting and Hammer-In at Fairmont, WV

Annual Business Meeting and election of officers begins at 9:00 am.  
Hammer-In follows and lasts until 4:00 pm.
Iron-in-the-hat. Bring safety glasses.  Lunch provided--$5.00.

Joint ABA/PAABA Hammer-In at Rice's Landing, PA (near Waynesburg).  
Join us for a day-long hammer-in, auction, and get-together at Young's Foundry. Demo's by ABA/PAABA's talented members.
Auction of member-donated ironwork. Iron in the hat. Visitors welcome.

Directions: Exit I-79 at  Waynesburg, PA; take Rt. 21 to Waynesburg; then turn right on Rt. 188; Go thru intersection at Dry Tavern (Jct. of Rt. 88); Follow Rice's Landing Road; turn right through RR underpass and turn right again, and then on to Water St.  to Young's Machine Shop--up the street from park and boat ramp..  Look for anvil signs along the way.

Annual Spring Conference at Cedar Lakes Park (near Ripley, WV)

Demonstration: Dan Easley of Hinton, WV
Program:  A potpourri of  Blacksmithing projects
Dan Easley teaches at the Campbell Folk School as well as operates his own forge.  Visit Dan's New River Forge at http://www.newriverforge.com

Demo’s: Saturday, May 3rd — 9am-Noon and 1pm-4pm
Sunday, May 4th — 9am-Noon
Plus: Iron-in-the-hat and Auction of donated ironwork (during the noonday break on Saturday or after the demo)
Bring your tools and safety glasses. We’ll fire up the forges on Friday and Saturday nights.  Tailgaters Welcome.  
FEE:  $15.00 or donate
hand-forged work piece to the auction.

Hammer-In at Arthurdale, WV

75th  Annual New Deal Day Festival. Activities begin at 10:00 am. Music, food, tours of historic Arthurdale.  
Blacksmiths can work from 9 am-5 pm in the restored historical forge. (Lunch provided for blacksmiths.) 

Auction of donated ironwork. Please bring a workpiece or two for the auction which is planned for 5 pm.

If you have portable forge equipment, please bring it along and set up near blacksmith shop. 
Blacksmiths can sell their work directly to the public.  Contact Arthurdale to arrange set up or if you need a table to display work.

Program: Chasing and Repousse' work. 
Mark will work at the forge making chasing tooling and Mindy will show its use doing chasing and Repousse' work.
